I landed in San Francisco, got to my Hotel Emblem, and immediately realized I was starving.
Luckily, there was a place nearby called Hamburguesa Bar. From the outside it looked like an old school burger spot, and after spotting duck fat fries on the menu, I already knew your boy was walking over.
The fifteen minute walk from the hotel was actually a nice way to stretch my legs after the flight. By the time I got there, the place was packed. Pro tip: get there a little early because seats fill up fast. I grabbed a spot at the bar and got right to work.
I ordered the Hatch Chile Double Smashburger, a Caesar salad, and of course the duck fat fries.
The Duck Fat Fries
Before we get to the burger, let us talk about those fries.
The duck fat fries came out exactly how fries should. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, perfectly seasoned, and honestly good enough that ketchup felt unnecessary. At around eight bucks, they were worth every penny. If you are going here and skipping the duck fat fries, you are making poor life decisions.

The Drink
While waiting for the food, I kicked it old school and ordered a bottle of Miller Lite.
Sometimes you do not need a fancy cocktail. Sometimes you just want an ice cold bottle of beer at the bar while watching the room buzz around you. It felt like the kind of burger joint where a Miller Lite just made sense. No craft beer dissertation required.
The Hatch Chile Double Smashburger
This was the star of the show.
At around twenty two bucks, it was actually cheaper than some of the Five Guys meals I have had lately, which feels insane to say out loud. The burger was loaded with cheese, cooked perfectly, and had great flavor throughout. I expected a little more heat from the Hatch chiles, but that is a minor complaint. The chile flavor was there, just a little more subtle than I anticipated.
Either way, I would order it again without hesitation. It is not cracking my Best Burgers in NYC list since that is strictly an NYC club, but San Francisco should be proud of this one.

The Caesar Salad
This was another pleasant surprise.
This was not one of those perfectly arranged Instagram Caesars that looks like it needs a lighting crew. It was rough chopped, tossed aggressively, and looked almost casual. Then you take a bite and realize somebody in the kitchen actually cares.
Every piece of lettuce was coated. Every bite had flavor. Full size anchovies were scattered throughout, and everything felt balanced. It was one of those salads that does not look like it is trying too hard, but quietly delivers.
Honestly, the Caesar was large enough that I would recommend splitting it between two people.
The Space and Service
Hamburguesa Bar has that old school meets new school energy. It feels like somebody took a 1970s neighborhood burger joint, cleaned it up, gave it better lighting, and put out genuinely good food. Wood accents, comfortable seating, and a lively crowd made it a fun place to hang out.
The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly, food came out quickly, and the staff kept things moving without making you feel rushed.
Next time, I am coming back for the Reno Burger and one of the milkshakes. I skipped the milkshake this visit because I had a dinner reservation at House of Prime Rib later that night and was trying to make at least one responsible decision.
Final Verdict
Overall, Hamburguesa Bar is absolutely worth a stop if you are in San Francisco. Great burger, fantastic fries, solid Caesar salad, and a vibe that makes you want to stay for another beer.
I will definitely be back.
As always, what do I know? I am just a fat guy from Brooklyn trying to survive the week, one martini at a time.
