This week’s adventures brought us to The Sea Fire Grill in Midtown Manhattan. Not our usual steak-heavy stop, but after two weeks of overeating (and overdrinking), we figured it was time to watch our girlish figures. Something lighter, fresher, and—most importantly—close to the hotel. The Sea Fire Grill at The Buchanan (158 E 48th St, between 3rd and Lex) fit the bill perfectly. Walking in, the restaurant opens into several semi-private areas. The main dining room is located in the back, but there’s also a cozy bar area with a TV and high tops, as well as a private dining space. Comfortable, intimate, and just upscale enough without being over-the-top.
The meal
Naturally, we kicked things off with appetizers:
Spanish Octopus
Grilled Calamari
Pan-Roasted Day-Boat Scallops
All paired with a martini (or two). Each dish was light, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. No heavy butter bombs—just clean, fresh seafood. Even the bread basket impressed. Sure, I wish it had been served warm, but the olive oil, balsamic, and whitefish dip made up for it.

For entrées, the standout was the Surf and Turf—a filet mignon topped with king crab and shrimp in a delicate white sauce. Rich enough to feel indulgent, but still lighter than our usual porterhouse feasts. The branzino with caper sauce was another winner: fresh, flaky, and perfectly balanced.
Sides included broccoli rabe, Brussels sprouts, and mashed potatoes. The potatoes stole the show—because, let’s be honest, potatoes rarely miss.

We wrapped things up with dessert: a refreshing mango sorbet and a standout pecan pie. Sweet, but not too sweet—just right.

Overall, The Sea Fire Grill delivered precisely what we needed: fresh seafood, lighter options, and still plenty of flavor. Service was slow, but we were caught between two large groups. Still, nothing ruined the night.
If you’re craving seafood in Midtown, this spot deserves a visit. No surprise—The Sea Fire Grill is run by the same hospitality group behind Benjamin’s Steakhouse. They know what they’re doing. Great food, sharp martinis, and a polished setting. Discretion, as always, advised.
