Bar Chuzo NYC Review: From Sports Bar Roots to a Slick Brunch Destination
So I finally made it out to Bar Chuzo.
It has only been open for about a year, which is embarrassing because I have known the owners for close to a decade. I am a terrible friend. In my defense, Bay Ridge is far. Yes, I don’t have a car. Yes, that does mean I train or Uber all the time. I grew up around there. Sometimes you just do not go back unless there is a really good reason.
This time, the reason was a friend’s birthday and a $35 bottomless brunch with 90 minutes of unlimited margaritas and $30 for Mimosas. Now that is motivation. Efficiency and bad decisions all in one place.
From Sports Bar Energy to Slick and Sexy
The name has roots in the combination of a more casual, sports bar-style spot and an oyster bar, but Bar Chuzo is a completely different beast.
This place is slick. It is sexy. It feels intentional.
Low lighting, clean design, a little edge without trying too hard. It is the kind of place where you come for brunch, and suddenly it is three hours later, and you are debating another round like a responsible adult… who is clearly not being responsible.
The Brunch Deal: Do the Math Later
Let’s address the main event.
$35 gets you 90 minutes of unlimited margaritas.
Yes, we took full advantage. Yes, we were “white girl wasted.” Yes, it was delicious.
Only catch, the whole table has to pick the same flavor when ordering. I get it for efficiency, but just know what you are signing up for. Also, pace yourself. There is a limit to how many margaritas you can responsibly consume in 90 minutes. I did not find that limit, but I am sure it exists.

The Food: More Than Just a Buzz
The menu draws on their broader concepts, blending seafood and Latin influences with comfort-food energy.
Scallop Crudo
Super fresh, clean, and bright. Melt-in-your-mouth texture with just enough citrus to wake everything up. Definitely worth ordering.
Tuna Melt (Yes, Really)
This hit me right in the nostalgia. It is one of those dishes that brings you back to a simpler time when bills were lower and life was easier. Crispy, cheesy, comforting. It just works.
Paella (Table Favorite)
This is one of their signatures, and it showed. Big portions, packed with flavor, and something the whole table was fighting over.
Burger & Crab Benedict (Stolen Bites)
I grabbed bites off my friends’ plates like a civilized human. The burger was solid. The crab benedict was actually really good and probably what I would order next time if I am feeling less nostalgic and more brunchy.

The Drinks & Vibe
The margaritas kept coming, the staff kept things moving, and everyone stayed in a good mood. That is really the formula here.
Friendly service, good pacing, and a vibe that makes you want to stay longer than you planned.
Only downside, I got a little agita from the lemonade juice. That is on me, not them. Consider it a personal warning label.
Final Verdict
Bar Chuzo is a great addition to Bay Ridge.
It is fun, well-priced, and actually delivers on both food and drinks. The space feels like a real upgrade from the group’s more casual roots, and it works.
I am definitely coming back. Next time, maybe solo so I can control the margarita flavor and make slightly better life decisions.
Or not.
Would I Go Back?
Absolutely.
As always, what do I know? I’m just a fat guy from Brooklyn trying to survive the week, one martini at a time. If you want more Top 10s steakhouses, burgers, restaurants, you name it, click the words and keep going.
Drooooooling 🤤 as always 👏👏👏
What is agita? That’s a $10 word for a $5 person ova here lol
