Back to Golden Steer Steakhouse (Yes, I Threatened to Return)
As I threatened in my last post about Golden Steer Steakhouse, I came back. This time I brought friends. Why? Simple math. More people equals more dishes. More dishes equal a better investigation. We also sat in the back dining room, which meant I finally got the full service experience and the full ambiance of the restaurant. And wow… the vibe is strong.
The Ambiance: Old School Vegas in the Best Way
Walking into Golden Steer, you pass through two or three different dining spaces, each with its own character. We ended up in the back room, which might be my favorite part of the restaurant. Think vintage artwork, leather seating, beautiful wood millwork, and dim lighting. The whole place feels like you stepped back into 1960s Las Vegas, which is exactly the vibe they’re going for. It’s classic steakhouse energy without feeling like a museum.
What We Ordered
With a bigger group, we were able to spread out the order a bit. We went with the tableside Caesar salad, shrimp cocktail, steak tartare, and the steak special, which was a bone-in New York strip. And of course martinis, because tradition matters.
Steak Tartare
The steak tartare here continues to be fantastic. I’ve had it before, and it’s still a standout. My friends loved it too and immediately said they’d order it every single visit. That’s always a good sign.
Shrimp Cocktail
The shrimp cocktail made everyone laugh when it hit the table. There were only three shrimp on the plate, but they were massive. I’m talking shrimp that looked about four inches long. The kind that makes you wonder if someone accidentally sent lobster instead. My guess is they’re around six or seven shrimp per pound, which is huge. Sometimes quality definitely beats quantity.
Tableside Caesar Salad
The tableside Caesar salad was one of the highlights of the night. The waiter prepared the entire salad right in front of us, walking through each ingredient and building the dressing step by step. The process took about three minutes and honestly it elevates the whole experience. Does it technically make the salad taste better? Maybe. Does it make the meal feel special? Absolutely.

The Steak: Bone-In New York Strip
The bone-in New York strip came out perfectly cooked. Great flavor, solid crust, and exactly the doneness we asked for. The sear wasn’t quite as strong as the filet I had during my previous visit, but that’s expected with a bone-in cut. Different structure, different cooking style. Still an excellent steak overall.

Dessert: Light and Refreshing
We finished with two desserts: Mixed ice cream and sorbet, and a Meringue and Granita. Both were light and refreshing, which is exactly what you want after a steakhouse dinner. Instead of leaving feeling like you swallowed a brick, you leave satisfied but not destroyed. Avoiding the meat sweats is always a win.

The Cocktail Program
Martinis. We covered this during my last visit and nothing has changed. They’re strong, cold, and exactly what a steakhouse martini should be.
Service: Exactly What a Steakhouse Should Be
Service at Golden Steer Steakhouse is textbook steakhouse hospitality. Water glasses were refilled almost instantly. Napkins were refolded when you stepped away. Plates were cleared smoothly and staff checked in often without hovering. Everything felt polished but still friendly, exactly how a classic steakhouse should operate.
What I’m Ordering Next Time
Yes, I already made another reservation for April, and I already know what I’m ordering. The lobster tails that passed by our table looked ridiculous. I’m not exaggerating when I say these things looked like they weighed about 5 pounds each. Huge, shiny, covered in butter, and perfectly cooked. Anyone who says size doesn’t matter clearly hasn’t seen these lobster tails, because it absolutely does.
A New Steakhouse Is Coming
There’s also a new competitor entering the ring soon. Carversteak is opening on March 20 and I already have reservations. So we’ll see how Vegas versus Vegas plays out.
Final Verdict
Golden Steer Steakhouse continues to deliver exactly what a classic steakhouse should: excellent steak, old-school ambiance, tableside service, strong cocktails, and polished hospitality. I’ll absolutely keep coming back, and yes, you’ll probably hear about it again after the lobster tail visit. But hey, what do I know?
This isn’t my first rodeo at Golden Steer, so if you want the full story of my first visit, martinis included, read the Golden Steer NYC review.
As always, what do I know? I’m just a fat guy from Brooklyn trying to survive the week, one martini at a time. If you want more Top 10s steakhouses, burgers, restaurants, you name it, click the words and keep going.
The twice baked potato. Steak Tartar and Caesar salad are selling me for the apps and that steak has my mouth watering
