Palladino’s Steak & Seafood has quietly taken a permanent spot in my rotation, not in the white-tablecloth, jacket-required sense, but in that beautiful, sweet spot of a reliable nightcap, a few solid bites, and an atmosphere that lets you unwind without committing to a full-blown evening. They close around 10 PM, which makes it perfect for an after-dinner stop when you want something good without going too far off the rails.
We had just come back from dinner and wanted exactly that. A couple of appetizers, a proper cocktail, and somewhere comfortable to land. Mission accomplished.
Cocktails First, Always
Two friends with us had never tried the miso caviar martini, and watching first-time reactions is always part of the fun. Safe to say it converted them instantly. It’s briny, savory, and surprisingly balanced. One of those drinks you remember the next day.
This time around, we had a different bartender than usual, and everything was still dialed in. No drop-off, no shortcuts. Always a good sign.

Where to Sit: Bar vs. Patio
We originally planned to sit at the main bar facing Grand Central itself, which is still one of my favorite people-watching setups in the city. It was packed, so we pivoted to the patio.
Considering it was winter, the patio was more than comfortable. Enclosed, well-heated, and surprisingly cozy. Plenty of room for our group, even though the place was clearly buzzing. Palladino’s has been steadily getting busier every time I come back, which says a lot.
Small Plates That Hit
We kept things light but purposeful.
- Arthur Avenue baked clams: Still excellent. I’ll admit I was worried about consistency, but they were just as good as ever. Clearly, they’ve got this dialed in now.
- Hand-stretched mozzarella: Served with fig jam, cured ham, and crackers. Relaxed food done right. Something to nibble on while the cocktails do their job.
Simple, satisfying, and exactly what we came for.
The Steakhouse Void
With Tuscany Steakhouse closing due to rent, I’m officially in the market for a new casual steakhouse home base, somewhere with TVs, good burgers, solid steaks, and Yankee games on in the background.
Palladino’s isn’t fully that replacement, but it’s filling part of the void nicely. And honestly, we need more spots like this.
If you’ve got recommendations, drop them in the comments. I’m actively taking notes.

About That Caesar Salad
Yes, I’m aware they have a Caesar salad.
No, I still won’t order it.
If you want to know why, there’s a previous post that explains my long memory and unmatched level of petty when it comes to Caesars. It’s not bad. I just haven’t forgiven.
Verdict
Palladino’s Steak & Seafood continues to do exactly what it needs to do. A dependable spot for late-night cocktails, quality small plates, and a relaxed atmosphere in an otherwise chaotic part of the city. Not a blowout destination. A comfort play.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what you’re looking for.

As always, what do I know? I’m just a fat guy from Brooklyn trying to survive, one martini at a time. If you want more Top 10s steakhouses, burgers, restaurants, you name it, click the words and keep going.
